Celebrating May 2024 Graduates

In May 2024, nearly 1,200 students graduated from the School of Computer, Data & Information Sciences (CDIS). Our newest alumni will make their mark in their respective fields, connecting technology and humanity and leading the next generation of technology leaders.

Established in 2019 to meet the rising need for computer, data, and information science professionals, CDIS has witnessed exceptional growth. Surpassing 5,700 students, we have experienced a remarkable 60% increase since our inception in 2019.

Below, we meet a few of our newest alumni.

Cameron Abplanalp (BS ’24 Data Science, Information Science, Computer Sciences Certificate)

“I knew that no matter which path I chose, I would be able to get a strong and meaningful education here, which turned out to be exactly right Now, I know that UW-Madison has lived up to those expectations. It has supported me and given me a comprehensive education across CDIS fields,” says Abplanalp.

Tolulope Adelabu (MA ’24 Library and Information Science)

“My favorite thing about UW–Madison is the people. I often say that Madison is very cold but the people keep you very warm. From my very first day on campus, 6, 630.68 miles away from home, I have been surrounded by a strong network of students, faculty, staff, and community members who helped me ease into my new work and living environment. These friends, instructors, advisors, librarians, and supervisors have provided me with exceptional career, academic, and social support and care which I directly attribute to my success in the MLIS program,” says Tolulope.

Emily Ratsavong (BS ’24 Computer Sciences, Data Science)

“With the rise of machine learning and artificial intelligence, learning data science and computer science together has been incredibly important. Additionally, data science has helped me see just how important data is as a tool for developing. For instance, visualizing machine learning models or gathering user insights on your code,” says Ratsavong.

Andrew Gross (MS ’24 Computer Sciences)

“The reputation of UW-Madison’s Computer Sciences department was enough of a draw. But on top of that, the design of the program is exactly what I was looking for. We were able to tailor the curriculum to our interests so I could focus solely on courses in machine learning, optimization, and statistics,” says Gross.
